What's New for 2019?

Escape might have received what you might call modest updates for the new model year, but they're far from unexceptional.

  • Escape SE and SEL trims, for instance, got everything from Intelligent Access and push-button and remote start to one-touch power windows, standard.
  • Escape SEL, on the other hand, receives new, better, and best of all, more comfortable seating materials.
  • Finally, FordPass Connect takes the place of SYNC Connect, making technological interoperability more seamless than ever.

Power and Performance

A small SUV by class, Escape is nonetheless big on the capabilities you've come to look forward to in a new Ford crossover. It's got, for one, three engines to choose from, depending on trim.

  • Escape S incorporates a 2.5-liter iVCT in-line four-cylinder paired with a standard six-speed SelectShift auto transmission. It comes ready to deliver 168 horsepower backed by 170 pound-feet of torque. Expect fuel economy up to 21 mpg in a city like Meadville, 29 mpg across the highway to Andover, and 24 mpg combined between Jamestown and Saegertown, according to EPA estimates. That's the extra mile for any excursion.
  • Escape SE and SEL feature a 179-horsepower, 1.5-liter EcoBoost I4 capable of 177 pound-feet of torque. The engine features Auto Start-Stop Technology for efficiency and its economical nature shows in its mileage ratings. Count on up to 23 mpg city, 30 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined by EPA estimates.
  • Escape Titanium packs a workhorse 2.0-liter EcoBoost I4. It's both the eager accelerator of the group and its hardest worker, shelling out 245 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque.

Factor in a standard four-wheel independent suspension for responsiveness and standard Torque Vectoring Control for precision cornering, and you can see just how reliable a ride Escape is.

Safety and Driver-Assist Features

Ford has been committed to keeping you and yours snug and secure wherever the open road or unbeaten path call. Escape is a prime example of this dedication. It features standards such as Personal Safety, Safety Canopy, and SOS Post-Crash Alert systems as well as passive technologies like AdvanceTrac with RSC (Roll Stability Control) and Curve Control. But it's got plenty of forward-thinking active technologies available, too. They include:

  • Intelligent 4WD, designed to maintain a firm grip while delivering dependable traction
  • An optional Ford Safe and Smart Package, loaded with driver aids
  • Adaptive cruise control for safe distancing from other vehicles
  • A forward collision warning system to help you avoid accidents
  • A BLIS (Blind Spot Information System) and cross-traffic alert to keep you situationally aware, and more

Interior Features

Escape is exceptionally accommodating no matter which trim you prefer. The memorable ride comes together under an available Panoramic Vista Roof, where as much as 98.7 cubic feet of passenger space spreads out invitingly. The cabin features available heated front seating, which is also optionally power-adjustable, as well as, in select trims, dual-zone electronic auto temp control.

Ample space for cargo is also the order of the day, as Escape features up to a whopping 68.0 cubic feet with rear seats collapsed. You can access it easily, too, via an optional hands-free foot-activated liftgate. A roof rack with side rails and available crossbars come along for the ride, ready to take on extras, and you can make use of a 2,000-to-3,500-pound max tow capacity when properly equipped thanks to a Class II hitch receiver. In all, that means Escape can put hauling a boatload of camping gear, a duo of dirt bikes or jet skis, or even a small camper within reach.

Technology

As command centers for the trek go, Escape is expertly equipped. Choose between either a 4.2-inch SYNC or available 8.0-inch SYNC 3 infotainment system to manage your entertainment and connectivity. Options abound from there. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, for instance, is available to integrate your smartphone with the dash display. Two smart-charging USB interfaces are available to keep your electronics energized and ready to travel. A SYNC Connect 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot is also an option, enabling connection to the Internet. Use the available voice-activated navigation system to get between destinations while you enjoy that road mix-become-trip anthem via an optional 10-speaker Sony audio system.
